Other Drugs

Many people erroneously believe that if the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approves a drug, that the drug is safe and will not harm the patients for whom it is prescribed. Unfortunately, the FDA has approved many drugs that were not safe or, after the products have been on the market, it was revealed or discovered that the drugs had side effects so dangerous that the drugs had to either be removed from the market or have their prescribing information changed to include more increased warnings.

The list of drugs with dangerous side effects is enormous. It includes drugs such as Fen Phen (diet drugs fenfluramine and phentermine.), Baycol (cholesterol medicine cerivistatin), Vioxx, Celebrex and Bextra (arthritis medicines rofecoxib, celecoxib and valdecoxib), Propulsid (stomach medicine cisapride), Duract (bromfenac), Hismanal (allergy medicine astemizole), Lotronex (alosetron hydrochloride), Pondimin (diet drug fenfluramine), Posicor (mibefradil), Raplon (rapacuronium), Raxar (grepafloxacin), Redux (diet drug dexfenfluramine), Rezulin (diabetes drug troglitazone), Seldane (allergy medicine terfenadine), PPA (allergies and cold medication phenylpropanolamine), Ephedra (diet drug ephedrine) and Serzone (allergy drug nefazodone). In addition to individual drugs, the list of dangerous drugs includes various classes of drugs, such as:

  • Antidepressants
  • Antipsychotics
  • ADHD medicines
  • Anti-seizure medicines
  • Avandia
  • Elidel
  • Fosamax
  • Ortho Evra
  • Plavix
  • Vaccines
