Vytorin and Zetia
Vytorin is the combination of Zetia and Zocor, a statin now available as a generic drug for about one third of the cost.
A 2006 study completed by the makers of Zetia and Zocor indicate that these drugs are not effective for the treatment of heart attack and stroke.
PBM is investigating allegations that the companies misled consumers into believing that these drugs were more effective than Zocor in blocking the fatty arterial plaques that can cause heart attack and stroke.
A potential lawsuit would seek a refund of any monies spent by the purchasers of Vytorin and Zetia, which the study shows to be no more effective than the generic form of Zocor.
